Our staff and faculty believe that the provision of
quality pre-hospital care is as much an art as it is a science. To that
end, we will provide a wealth of educational opportunities and role
models to help our students gain the requisite knowledge, skills, and
attitudes that the field of emergency care demands.
We believe that the safety of the general public depends
on the competence of all health care providers. Emergency medical
services clinicians are tasked with the great responsibility of making
life saving decisions quickly, many times with incomplete information or
on chaotic scenes. Since emergencies often occur in sub-optimal
conditions students must not only possess excellent knowledge and
job-oriented skills but must also possess a capacity for problem solving
and the ability to manage ambiguity in situations dissimilar from those
presented in the “standard” training environment. We endeavor to go
beyond the “bare minimum” training other institutions offer by
employing state of the art simulators, life-like mock patient care
scenarios with realistic injury simulations, and by providing practical
exercises led by instructors with extensive real world experience and a
passion for teaching others.
We also believe that an enjoyable learning environment
is a more productive learning environment. To that end, we will strive
to create a sense of community in the classroom. Students should feel
welcome and connected with their classmates and their instructor. We
also strive to ensure that education is a two-way, interactive process
as each member of our instructor team, each student, and each
organization represented brings a rich and varied amount of experience
with them to our courses. We will also be accountable to one another,
to our students, and to the community at large by adhering to EMS and
educational industry standards, and by providing timely, clinically
appropriate, non-biased content in our educational endeavors.
